Coloring your hair for the first time is an exciting time, but can also be stressful!! You have so many questions, like:
What color should I get? Should I get highlights? Am I too old? Or, I'm a man... men don't dye their hair, do they??
We are here to help you answer all your questions and help guide you on your fun hair journey, and NO, you are not too old and YES, men do dye their hair!!
A few tips to consider before coming into the salon to discuss.
Evaluate the Maintenance Before Taking the Plunge
Certain color processes require more maintenance and upkeep than others, so it's important to consider that when choosing your color. The average time to get your roots touched up is typically four to six weeks. No matter how well you take care of your strands, fading is inevitable, and since hair grows about half an inch every month, you'll have to get your roots redone in that time frame.
Before you color your hair, use a clarifying shampoo
It's highly recommended washing your hair with a clarifying shampoo before coloring your hair. A clarifying shampoo is a deep cleanser that uses heavier surfactants—the soap-like ingredients—than regular shampoos to eliminate grease, product residue, and impurities from your scalp. In other words, it's a heavy-duty cleanser you can use to reset your hair every once in a while.
Bring Pictures with You
You should always bring photos of your desired color. Sometimes your definition of blonde or brown can be different than your colorist's. Pictures are a great way of ensuring you're on the same page.
You Might Not Get the Color You Want On Your First Try
On some occasions when going from dark brown hair to a beautiful bright blonde, or if your hair is already colored, it may be more of a journey rather than always nailing it on the first service. The hair has to go through all of its underlying tones to reach the desired level, without compromising the integrity of the hair. Also, big changes can damage your hair, so most colorists prefer to do it in stages, allowing hair to recuperate for a few weeks between sessions. So if you're aiming for a serious transformation, make sure you know what you're in for. For this reason, it's also a good idea to see a pro if you're looking to do something major.
